Scarab Website - Upcoming Changes
Submitted by jayfoot on Sat, 2011-12-03 12:07. PublicI know it seems hard to believe since we have been talking about it for almost 3 years but we will be transferring to new boards in the next two weeks.
When we change to the new system you will not be able to access this board for a week or two while we configure it to history mode. You will be able to read old messages but you will not be able to create new messages.
We will be transferring the username and email address for all ELDER MEMBERS to the new message board and your rights and permissions (what boards you can read and post on). ELDER MEMBERS WILL NEED TO REQUEST A PASSWORD CHANGE ON THE BOARD SO THEY CAN ACCESS THEIR ACCOUNT. You do not need to contact an admin to do this it will be a choice on the signin screen.
What would YOU like to see?
Submitted by Maska on Tue, 2010-08-03 08:12. PublicAll, the Inner circle has taken up a discussion about what we'd like to see in a revamped SCARAB site, if we did one at all.
While the current engine/site has done pretty well for us over the years, we're exploring the option to rebuild it into a more modern and refreshed version.
So basically the question is this... what is it you would like to see a new site have?
It could be something we already have, and you want to see it continue...
It could be something we have already, that you think can be done away with...
-or- It could be something you've seen elsewhere (examples please) and wish we had that too...
Site Issues...
Submitted by Maska on Wed, 2008-10-29 16:21. PublicI am aware of the issues with the site, but as to yet haven't figured out why most people can't access it.
As I learn more I'll let you know.
... and no, I wasn't doing anything... ![]()

Submitted by Tonto Tenbears on Sun, 2008-03-09 23:47. PublicGreetings, friends!
The designation of Scarab Elder is beautiful thing. It is the moment at which our members go from being someone we game with to being truly welcomed as a trusted friend and family member. It is therefore not a position to be lightly requested or granted. Now, our guild has grown exponentially in the last couple of years due to our presence in the wildy popular World of Warcraft. For that reason our ranks have swollen to levels that those of us that have been around here for a year or two (or nine) couldn't have imagined back when we were taking our first baby steps in UO. And the ranks of Elder have grown at an enoromous rate as well. There is some question in my mind (yes, I take full responsibility) as to the lessening of value placed on this most sacred of designations.

Should you have any problems logging in or registering, please do not hesitate to contact me. My email address is ixchael at guildscarab.com.
Our apologizes to our legitimate guests, but there was no way around this.

To my Scarab authors
Submitted by milksneaker on Tue, 2011-12-06 19:24. PublicI fount this article to be interesting.
"In 1963, a sixteen-year-old San Diego high school student named Bruce McAllister sent a four-question mimeographed survey to 150 well-known authors of literary, commercial, and science fiction. Did they consciously plant symbols in their work? he asked. Who noticed symbols appearing from their subconscious, and who saw them arrive in their text, unbidden, created in the minds of their readers? When this happened, did the authors mind?"

I even liked the Alabama fight song when I looked it up on youtube, very catchy and fun. Roll tide!

Dark F'n Souls Review
Submitted by Wackson on Thu, 2011-12-01 00:58. PublicAt long last (sorry for the delay), here is my Dark Souls review. Please critique below. I take all that stuff seriously and it helps me. Besides, nothing you could say could be worse than what Father Tonto says when I give him my draft. He can be, well, pervasively colorful.
Dark Souls
A masterfully crafted, brutal experience
If someone were to ask you what the most difficult game you ever trudged through was, you would more than likely answer without hesitation, a game that was made back in the 80's. The reasoning behind my conclusion was deduced by analyzing the gaming library from back when and today. There were no such things as “easy” games in the golden age of gaming. They didn't exist; they weren't bred yet. Now I take you through my space time continuum into the modern. What do you see? Mainstream titles that contain no sense of foreboding difficulty. Now of course this oft-forgotten spark of strenuousness doesn't apply to every game today to make the game worth checking out. Bioware still shows us that story is worth a damn if told right (very rarely these days I might add), also along that line Naughty Dog bestows upon us gaming experiences that don't require you to sit in a movie theater to see to believe. But excluding the possibilities of fantastic stories, top of the line presentation, and solid controls, do they seem at all rewarding to you after you've finished them and if not isn't that one of the cardinal reasons why we started gaming in the first place?
SWTOR Guild Prelaunch Closes 12/2
Submitted by Invictar on Mon, 2011-11-28 16:24. PublicMake sure you have joined the guild on SWTOR's site, for prelaunch perks.
Guild will be formed and ready when we hit the server day 1 automatically.
Auto Guild invite for first toon created.
Also will direct you to the guilds server automatically.

DO it now or suffer the abusive trials of having a manual invite later. (Currently has something to do with goats and rubber gloves, and your not wearing the gloves...)
Chip is big in Sweden
Submitted by Horamir on Mon, 2011-11-28 12:41. PublicMy video of Chip doing the SWTOR lightsaber dance ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nM0XQXOD280) has ~450 views in the first week
The country from which the most people are viewing the video, is, not surprisingly, the USA. Number 2? Sweden!! Those Scandinavians have good taste (and an affinity for blonde hair?).
Only bummer part? They changed the something-or-other pleated shirt graphic since the first weekend beta--this week the shirt in the video was just a normal, semi-blah grey robe instead of the cool half-shirt with jetpack-backpack look.
A rival for Lindt chocolate
Submitted by Horamir on Mon, 2011-11-28 12:30. PublicI thought Lindt would reign unchallenged as world's best chocolate, but Nama chocolate is a legit rival for the crown. My sister had some when I visited her for Thanksgiving.
Nama is a Japanese chocolate, made by a company called, for some strange reason, Royce. The quality level is extremely high and its delicious. The piece I had was small and rectangular in shape, somewhat soft, almost half way between a fudge and regular milk chocolate. Fantastic flavor and consistency.
Anyway, I am now on the lookout for Nama chocolate. It is apparently not available for purchase in the USA ( http://www.royceusa.com/ won't load here at work, although its not coming through as being blocked, not sure even if it would that one could buy any here). I think my sister said the box they had was was given to her as a gift by a visiting researcher. If anyone knows where to buy some, let me know.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Submitted by Mychelle Foley on Thu, 2011-11-24 13:50. PublicI wanted to take a moment to say happy Thanksgiving to all our members! I hope your day is restful or awesome as your preference runs. May your turkeys be golden and moist and your tummys only get full when you want them to.
My life has taken a few huge steps in directions i never expected over the last few months and wanted to say how thankful i am to have the people in my life that are here and out side of SCARAB.
Now let the gorging begin!!!!

Thanksgiving Boredom Buster
Submitted by Gyst Starblayze on Wed, 2011-11-23 10:39. PublicPlease excuse the shameless plug. My wife and I are delighted to unveil our latest game for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch: Roly-Poly.
It's a whimsical and silly game about a roly-poly bug climbing a sunflower. We made it for iTwixie.com, a Pittsburgh-based social network for tween girls, and our testing has shown that most boys like it a lot too.
If you have a kid, niece, or nephew who's into silly games, please check it out as a Thanksgiving boredom buster. You can get Roly-Poly from the App Store here.

Virtual Table Top RPG'ing
Submitted by Thalamos on Mon, 2011-11-21 07:36. PublicI haven't done any serious table top RPG'ing in decades. However, I've recently gotten interested in runnning a few games to see how it goes but have a lack of players. I would like to run a Call of C'thulhu 6th Edition, Chill and/or AD&D 1st Edition game. Yeah, these are all "old school" rules but that's how I roll.....Old School. I know that there are Scarabs out there that play table top RPG's and would like to get some input from you. I've found a few different programs and a couple of servers to run a virtual game off of but have no experience doing so. Does anyone else have any experience in this arena? Is there a program or server that you prefer? Any advice on starting something up? I realize that SWTOR will be taking up most everyone's time, including mine, but thought is if there are some interested parties, we could take a break every once in awhile to have some personal "Scarab Time" together.

SWTOR Stress test=fail
Submitted by Horamir on Fri, 2011-11-11 21:07. PublicCan't log in. Sometimes it tells me my password is wrong, sometimes it lets you past the PW stage only to have the play button greyed out. Sigh. The testing forums are also down and others when you go to login nothing whatsoever happens or it takes you to a page that says this page doesn't exist because you aren't logged in. Stress test=megafail.
EDIT: Got to server select screen 3 hours after game was supposedly available, was #1803 in the queue, hit cancel to go back to server select screen to pick another server and got dumped to a spinning icon wait screen, then game crashed. Went to log back in and now its back to telling me my password, ie the one I just logged in under, is not valid. Fucking lame.
For all you Catan Players
Submitted by Lauryana on Fri, 2011-11-11 01:32. PublicHey look, its Star Wars Chipmunk :D
Submitted by Horamir on Thu, 2011-11-10 21:38. PublicWhile looking for info on the Sith Inquisitor class, I found the screenshot below. The graphics on this character's outfit are really well done...nicely detailed and perfectly appropriate for the class. The shape of the hood is kind of amateurish/rudimentary, but all else is excellent.
All the holocrons are mine...ALL! MUWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA!!!
Sorry, just getting psyched up for beta testing tomorrow ![]()

Only way the above would be more Chipmunkish was if the hood was down and a blond ponytail was visible...
