Scarab to me...

Random thoughts

Hello all you Scarabs,

Ive been sitting here thinking back on the history I have with Scarab. Started thinking about back at the beginning and how things were back then. MMOs were brand new. The closest thing we had was Diablo, and Battle Net. At that point, Ultima Online hadnt come out, I hadnt meet any of the people that would form Scarab. I knew Boudica(Arithana) Elbereth, Ix and Quaser. We played together in a clan in Diablo.

well, Diablo died off and Ultima Online was just around the corner. Firing up the ole ICQ, IMs were crusing back and forth. UO went gold and El and I bought the game. We played that first day in seperate areas, this type of game being totally new to us, talking thru ICQ. I finally log off for the evening, sleep thru the night and log back in on waking up. My ICQ goes off and El is telling me about some people he meet, I need to come meet them. So I start walking in-game, trying to meet up with El and his new friends. Wandering thru the woods, I come across this player being beaten on by a tree. (Reaper) I walk up and ask if he needs help, he says no, he is building his Parry skill, and since its at 30(lol) the tree barely hurts him. I notice a name over his head, "Ozwyn". In troduce my self and we run around a bit, beating up random things and talking. Little did I know that this was one of the people El was wanting me to meet. I meet up with El and we all start talking, he ICQs me that Ozwyn is one of the people he wanted to meet. We proceed to meet the rest of the crew there, Ravenn, Venom, Hawke and Ldyhawke. After a bit of talking and such, El and I become the first recruits for the guild to be known for years to come as SCARAB.

For years, SCARAB has been together, thru UO, into Everquest(where we got our first tastes of high end encounters), then into various other games, Dark Age of Camelot being one of our more successful, though relatively short lived game. (Skal!). Through all these games, Scarab has always maintained that a person will never be forced to participate in anything they didnt want to. Alot of our players were very casual, spent time crafting or tinkering on multiple characters, or just chatting the day away. Some wanted to do the harder things in the game and did the best they could within the guild. Some decided they needed to move on to do more things inside the game. Most of these people left on very good terms and are welcomed back with open arms whenever they decided to swing thru and say hi.

The one major facet of Scarab has always been happiness of each person to the best of our abilities. Sometimes, we do really well, sometimes we dont. Always has depended on the person's desire to BE happy. We have always kept a pretty small core of Inner Circle to try and make decisions we feel are right for the well being of the guild and the people within it. Have we always agreed? Nope, thats why there arent just one or two of us. But we always try to come to the best solution for all involved, even if it means sacrificing some aspect that we enjoy. A happy medium is a pretty hard thing to find amongst 150 real people. But we as the leaders of the guild do the best we can and take the grief from those that disagree. Its part of the job, we accept it fully.

Well, this has gotten long and rambling...hasnt it?

From A Newbie

Speaking as a Newb to SCARAB, Hannah and I think you guys do a great job running the guild. You will never get everyone to agree all the time and nor should anyone ever try. Being a good leader or having good leadership is doing what is right not always what is easy. Will people disagree? Will we disagree with some decisions? Of course, and that should be expected. Always do what you think is right and no one can question you because your intentions are pure.

We both say, "Keep up the good work"

HUGS and hihi -

Oh, Dais, after a rotten day at work, this is so beautiful to read. Brings back memories of meeting my first SCARAB in EQ1 - Cloudy. Then Oz. Then the Disco Mage, Gystypoo.

I grew up with the Trollies and Ogres in EQ1 (was the only human in Bashin Ordur!) - went with them to Hawk0e's and LdyHawke's wedding. What a time! ;=)

And on, and on, and on. I want to hear more!

hugs - Yoldie

I'd love to hear more war

I'd love to hear more war stories from the old days. I do genuinely enjoy hearing about cool times in games I've never played and people I've never met. Eye-wink

Reading all of this really

Reading all of this really makes me wish i woulda found you guys in UO. I really didnt play it much because i really didnt have people to run around with and it felt kind of lonely. In SWG i found a guild there but had nothing like what SCARAB did. DAOC i never really played. CoH is when i met Maska and a few other SCARABs then started my epic adventure with you guys. And like I said. My only regret is not finding SCARAB sooner. oh.. and attending a SF, which i will do some day.
