Okay not fair....

For some odd reason I am not downloading the path...so i have these random balls just flying at me (okay that was a set up)...anyways i can not get past 15...lol

Well my high score is a 69,

Well my high score is a 69, and no i didn't intentionally suicide or anything. For the record the Server's got delayed again until 10est, i think - depending on my memory of time zones.

Drewn

Ok, i'm addicted...63!

Bah

Well, on my first try without knowing what the heck was going on, I got 64. Razz I really expected more of you people. I've gotten up to 76, and later tonight I'll get even higher than that.

As for the flower tower, it's retarded. You get 9000 dmg at 150 range for 3000gp, but the next upgrade is 5000gp and it gets you to 15000 dmg, which doesn't seem worth it to me. Just so you know.

61 is the highest I have

70

Well, I sucked it up big-time at first, but then I changed my strategy and hit 70. Now let's see if I can break it. Very happy

60, water and nature towers,

60, water and nature towers, although water towers seem better.

I think i need to work more on better tower placement.

I have run 2 games so far. Seems like placing the towers up front close to entry so they have the run the gauntlet of fire 2+ times works best.

I am wondering if the 1K+ upgrades would help on the range.

Prof's picture

you guys sicken me

i'm so jealous. I haven't cracked 60 Sad But on the plus side I pwnd the Zerg for a couple hours last night with all my bunkers and turrets Smiling felt great!

How's this for sad?

To whom it may concern:

Please accept the following as my official application to the Bored Geek of the Year contest.

Thank you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How's this for sad? Frustrated that I could never beat my top score of 70, I decided to do marginal benefit and cost-benefit analyses for each tower at each level of development. My results confirmed most of my initial feelings, but it also shed some new light that let me revise my strategy somewhat.
Here's the result:
This was taken just moments before I died at level 73. I couldn't quite upgrade the last tower, but all the other Nature towers are fully upgraded, and the water tower is upgraded to the second-to-last level.
While I'm pleased with my upgrade choices, I'd still like to experiment with tower placement. Does anyone have any useful ideas and strategies that have proven helpful to them?
curiosu - why nature towers?
curiosu - why nature towers? tried fire towers and they seem to have range issues.
Water towers seem to have good range/damage and cheap to deploy.
Water vs Nature
Nature towers absolutely suck until the very last upgrade level when they jump to 9000 dmg (a huge jump from the measly 1458 dmg on the level before). At that point, the actually outdamage the highest level of water tower, and they are slightly cheaper too.
Water towers deal the most damage at the beginning levels, though. That's why I used one right at the very beginning. I threw everything I could afford into upgrading that first water tower right off the bat, which allowed me to build up enough money to throw down top-rank nature towers in one fell swoop.
Fire towers are decent at low-to-mid levels, but they fall behind the other two at the highest upgrade levels, so I don't bother using them at all.
I noticed that when I kill the baddies quickly I get more money than if I kill them slowly. Has anyone else noticed this? Anyone have tricks to kill them quickly? I like to front-load the beginning stretch with lots of towers, but this only comes at the expense of surivability later on. *shrugs*
I discovered that in later
I discovered that in later games. So far i managed a 74 by using water and nature towers up front where range, high damage and cheap upgrades counted.
Fire is good early damage but too expensive for high end work. surprisingly, they work well for inner defense since you deploy a good mid range tower and 2-3 buddies.
ozwyn's picture
I managed 75 by going fire
I managed 75 by going fire around the first turn, nature right afterwards up in a line, then ice around the top corner.
I am thinking if i ran ice in a row instead linking with nature i would get better results.
based on others notes on towers disappearing I am trying to hold it to 7 of each type.
Jayfoot's picture
after wave 65 you can build
after wave 65 you can build at least 9 if not more of the same tower.
68 on my first try.
68 on my first try. Smiling
... and I had NO idea what was going on for about 20 levels. Then I caught on.
77 Very good, young
77
Very good, young grasshopper. It was rather apparent to me after my first game that nature towers were the way to go. The range is really good at higher levels, 2nd only to fully upgraded water towers, and they cost less than 3000 to fully upgrade. Water towers get expensive for the last 2 upgrades and only do about 80% of the damage a fully upgraded nature tower does. The fire tower range is just too sucky to be very useful higher up. The air tower is a joke (don't worry, I found this out from experience, too). And, as I've said before, the cost of a flower tower is to great to make it good. 2 fully upgraded nature towers will do more damage at a cost of 6000ish than a once-upgraded flower tower at a cost of 18000, and the range sucks.
So now that we've decided what the towers are good for, where can you place them to be most effective? I'm still sitting at 77. I worked out how much harder the guys are at level 70 than level 1, and it's like 5 million times as tough. I have no idea how to get any higher than 77, but I'll keep trying. And as for earning more moolah for killing them earlier, I'm pretty sure that's not true, but I'm not positive.
And heck if I'm gonna let Gyst walk away with the Bored Geek of the Year award! Throw my name in, and until he gets past 77, I'm declaring myself the frontrunner!
Gyst Starblayze's picture
Blast!
Blast it! And I got 75 this afternoon too! I'll just have to keep working at it.
I modified my strategy slightly to get a higher score. At first (as can be seen in my previous screenshot) I liked to place towers right against the path so they could rapid-fire as the baddies went by. Each tower can only have one bullet in the air at once, so when they fire at point blank range they get to fire a whole bunch of shots very quickly.
Later today I centered my towers -- firing was slower on one side but faster on the other, and the overall effect was better.
I've noticed that when I place a tower right near the place where the baddies enter, I get several shots in before they even enter the screen. It seems to work well, because yes, killing them really quickly does earn more money (I ran a bunch of tests). At higher levels the difference is probably negligible, but at low levels it allows for upgrades and new towers about one wave sooner than would otherwise be possible.
As for tower placement, this is kinda what I've been doing:
* I put 2 water towers down right away and upgrade them once. I place one near the baddie entrance, and one slightly below that.
* Then I focus on upgrading them to the second-to-highest level (the final upgrade is not cost-efficient).
* Next, I build a fully-upgraded nature tower at the corner at the top of the first U-swoop. The range is high enough to shoot baddies right as they enter along with the first 2 towers, but it's also in a good place to kill things that slip by the gauntlet.
* Then I work on extending my gauntlet both down the center of the first U-swoop, and then I just continue to build along the baddie path.
This works pretty well, but around level 70 or so the baddies fly past my gauntlet too quickly and things start falling apart.
Does anyone build up a strong defense close to the castle?
Does a tightly-knit gauntlet outperform a spread-out defense, or vice versa?
The programs of this bloody game got a score of 90... so let's take them down! Twisted Evil
I see your 77...
... but don't raise you anything. I haven't been able to beat 77 yet, but by golly I'm gonna share that Bored Geek medal with ya.
Now let's see if you can hit 78 to steal the title back. Twisted Evil
