Hi from Austin!

Travels

So last week I got tired of hearing Hunden hack and wheeze his way through work and I realized that I could very well be in Austin, as all my junk is packed and I was kinda just sitting around taking care of my cats and waiting to move. So, with Oz being the kind soul that he is and volunteering to watch my critters for me, I booked plane tickets to Austin and flew down last Tuesday to do fun things like thump the man on the back and make yummy homemade chicken soup. And make sure he's properly drugged of course, because he has a nasty habit of not really actually taking care of himself. *spank*

Anyhow, for all those concerned, he's doing much better now and can only be heard hacking up a lung a few times a day (which is excellent as he's running out of lungs). I'll be heading back to MD tomorrow evening to do the last few chores I need to do to get everything in order, and on the 14th, Hunden will be flying in to Baltimore himself. From there we'll be packing my junk onto a shipping truck, crating my cats up, and making the 22 hour drive from MD to Austin in one straight shot where we'll be living in a neat little (well, big) house with (*shudder*) Tatamae until such time as we see fit to buy our own.

I thought I'd share this with you all however, since it is kinda cute and you can sorta see the pretty sparkly he found in a Cracker Jack box and so thoughtfully gave to me:

Things are going to be VERY hectic for us both for the next few weeks. We'll do our best to keep everyone updated, but if we become scarce you all know where to find us, and you're welcome to call us up anytime!

We are now safe and sound in Texas

Bunny and I are now safe and sound at my folks in Texas, and expect to be in Austin tomorrow (well, later today if you want to be technical). Thank you very much to all you well-wishers out there!

It was a very memorable trip, to include two very loud cats (mostly, at least) and one very disgruntled Hunden at the wheel at 2 am who was seriously considering how he could silence the cats without actually killing them. Leave it to Bunny to come up with the most ingenious solution, which involved her shoe, the front of the cats' carrier and a whole lot of STFU (served up hot and bunny-style, as she was trying to sleep also).

We spent 28 hours in the car, stopping for the occasional dog walk. Sidney was the real trooper, putting up with barely enough room to lay down. If Bunny actually had a camera, you would probably be looking at a pathetic picture of Sidney curled up into a tight ball, resting his head upright against the back of the seat.

Again, thank you to everyone who sent your best wishes to us, and I hope to write to you soon from the official abode of Bunny and Hunden (Anne and Andy).

Good to hear all is well,

Good to hear all is well, aside from the cat noise. Cats just dont "get" the allure of the open road somehow! Half of the reason Coal is named Coal is that was his temporary name when I first adopted him on the way home on a long road trip, and using the temporary name to calm him so frequently on the way, that irrevocably became his name Laughing out loud And yes, Sidney is perhaps the best behaved dog in the world, with the exception of the odd squirrel jaunt, for which he can hardly be blamed.

Glad you guys are back!!

Well, things have sort of gone a little different than I thought they would, but at least I have a job now. I know all about those long trips and while I may not know exactly what it is like traveling with pets, I can't imagine a road trip that long with "loud cats." Glad to hear that you arrived safely and hope that you all have a great time exploring Austin. If you ever want to hang out, just send me a message and would love to. Regardless, take care and I wish you guys the best in your new adventures, ala Scarab style. TTYL.
