Grats Gabby!!!

So Gabs and I sneak out this morning for 9 holes. Her mom was able to watch the kiddies.

Now, something you should know about Gabs...she learned how to play golf a few months before our wedding. She knew I liked to play and she was afraid she'd never see me during the honeymoon other than the 30-50 seconds of...well, you know. And since we went to Hawaii, golf was not optional, it was required.

So anyway, first time out this year, first hole is a par 5 and her first tee shot was something easily forgotten. So she re-teed and hit a nice drive in the middle of the fairway. 2nd shot was a solid 4-iron down the middle of the fairway. So she was set up for her third shot, about 100 yards from the green with an enormous bunker directly in front of the green...{note: her trajectory is usually more of a bump-n-run rather than a high-soft approach}... so I say, "just aim left of the bunker and then you can chip up on to the green." She was not pleased with that suggestion and proceeded to aim directly at the pin. Well, she hit what was, at the time, the most amazing shot of her life. Perfectly struck, perfectly high, perfectly soft shot landed over the bunker, short of the hole and rolled a fair amount towards the cup. 2 puts and she got her par. I was in awe.

If you picked up on my wording you'll notice how I said "at the time, the most amazing shot". I said it that way because I had no idea what was about to happen. We make it through the next few holes with nothing out of the ordinary. I'm doing ok, a few pars, a few bogeys. She's getting herself around with some nice shots. Then we get to the 14th (back nine) hole. Par 4 up a hill and back down. She hits a nice tee shot followed by 2 4-iron shots (first one wasn't exactly how she planned). So she is now about 70 yards from the green. I was already on the green so i was just standing there waiting for her to hit. She hits it, and the sound it made was so nice. I knew it was a good shot the moment I heard it. She hit it high and soft and as it was on its way down I thought maybe it was going to carry a bit too far {we don't exactly put backspin on it}. So I said, "hit the pin!" in hopes of slowing it down. Well, it didn't need to be slowed down, or sped up for that matter. It landed about 15 feet short of the hole, took a little bounce and rolled directly into the cup. I raised my arms and cheered for her and she stood there in disbelief. Now THAT was the most amazing shot of her life. I'm glad I was there to see it Smiling

So if you see her around send her a little /golf clap Razz

Thanks Sweetie,

Today was rather amazing on the golf course. Just appreciating my time with you, the nice warm air, and the beautiful views only to be topped off by a few amazing shots. I too was glad you were there to see it, since I was too low and missed it! I can only say thanks to my great and patient teacher, I will call him tomorrow Very happy

BTW, that was at least worth 2311 points!

WOOT AND GRATS!!

Wow,

Myself I can't hit a golf ball to save my life. Every single time I hook or slice and I just can't get the hang of it. Now all you have to try for is a Hole in One, judging by how well you shoot, I would bet that you might give Woods a run for his money. Seriously, glad that you had a good day and congratulations. Maybe I should invest since I am surrounded by golf courses down here.

Grats, Gabby!What do you

Grats, Gabby!

What do you guys shoot? I think my index is about to fall into the 17 range or so... Like last weekend, 4 birdies, a par, and STILL shot 97. How the heck do you go +29 on only 13 holes as a bogey golfer? *grrrrrs*

Prof's picture

ouch

your round had the makings of something spectacular. 4 birdies is awesome. I'm usually in the 88-95 range for 18 holes. I shot a 43 on the 9 holes we did yesterday. But it's on a course i know inside and out so I usually score a little better there. Gabs is higher than that Razz she doesn't always keep score on every hole.

I definitely consider myself a "bogey" golfer like you said. Not sure how you got +29 on those 13 holes but I would have loved to have been there to point and laugh. Razz

*bows* you're a gentleman

*bows* you're a gentleman and a scholar, my friend...

Opened with a double, then birdie, birdie, bogey... so I'm +1 sitting on the fifth tee, feeling pretty good... then the bottom dropped out.

*sigh*

went 48-49-97, and the worst part is the back side is easier than the front. Birdied the toughest par 3 on the back (knocked it to 5 feet) and also the easiest 4. Problem was the six penalty shots (2 OB off the tee, and FOUR in the water). That's TWELVE shots right there, and would have dropped me to 85. Razz

Having played with Dolvin

Having played with Dolvin before, he actually plays quite well(compared to me)

I used to be able to play 99-105 very consistently, I hit straight as an arrow but short. Hell, I played junior golf with Bubba Watson.

Now, after multiple surgeries on the ole legs, I dont play nearly as well as I once did, though I still really like the game.

I'll stick with pool for the time being. =)

COngrats Gabs!As a fellow

COngrats Gabs!

As a fellow golfer, I salute you.

To be honest, its shots like that that keep you playing golf.

And the same goes for any sport honestly. Its what keeps me playing pool when i have really bad nights (that and beating Ven and Dolvin...)
