I'm looking into getting a blu-ray player. Itching to get some 1080p movies. Does anyone have any suggestion for a player?

Andy and I are getting one soon too... I think he's already done a bunch of looking around so I'll point him this way. Smiling

Up until very recently your best bet was simply to get a PS3. They are actually excellent 1080p bluray players with very good upconversion. Recently non-PS3 players have become a competitive option, largely due to falling prices. You can now get a high quality non PS3 Blu ray player, but it may still be worthwhile to go PS3 if you intend to also use it for games. Do some research on google to find a bunch of reviews and make the best choice based on what you want.

I don't want to spend $400

I don't want to spend $400 for a PS3. I just need a decent player that will last while.

I don't blame you, kinda

I don't blame you, kinda pricey unless you think you'll use it for a lot of games. The Samsung BD1600 at $249 is about the best price you'll find for a good brand Blu ray player I think: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9213184&type=product&id=1218060485246 It plays Blurays in 1080p over HDMI, and supports Netflix and Pandora streaming over wifi Smiling There are also decent Pioneer, Panasonic and Sony models out there for $250-300ish.

Have to admit this is on my mental radar too, especially since how a good blu-ray player can upconvert video...

see a standard dvd of dark night at Tontto's place upconverted to 1080p and on a good LCD was a powerful sales pitch.(and 300, and the first Lord of the Rings movie, etc... )
