Ideal meal?

In the spirit of fourth of July festivities, If you could have the perfect meal, what would it be?

I'm easy to please and have very conventional, non-gourmet tastes: a pepperoni and sausage pizza from a really good pizzeria (there are several that fit the bill), a Coke or maybe some sort of orange pop, and for dessert, an apple pie "concrete" from Ted Drewes in St. Louis (preferably with some 2% milk to wash it down). Yoldie will back me up on TDs; if you are ever in St. Louis, check em out, they are the best.

To me, 4th of July =

To me, 4th of July = barbeque. We always spent the day outside in NY, usually with the whole family, burgers and hotdogs on the grill, potato salad, green salad, baked beans, whatever sides folks wanted to bring. For dessert we had watermelon, ice cream, and my mom's pudding cake.

Sadly, with the burn ban here in hot-as-shit Texas, there will be no cooking out for us this year, lest we incinerate the entire state or something.

bummer! It is hard to beat a good cookout.

Indeed!

BBQ for the 4th is the way I'd go, too. Simple bbq chicken, maybe some kebab on the grill, and some sausage from Uli's, a master sausage maker in Seattle that really nailed my tastes when I visited. Wash it down with some raspberry lemonade and caribbean creme and I'm a happy, happy Tor.

They did something like this

They did something like this on Top Chef last season only it was last meals... I'd finally made up my mind about the last meal concept and it really is insanly plain because its more about who cooked it and the memory than about the food. My mom used to make this casarol of frozen veggies and chicken and condensed soup and milk with a crushed cracker crust (I have the receip somewhere I've even made it before) and we all called it 'favorite casarol' and that's what I'd want as a last meal, probably even with a glass of milk. I don't know about an ideal meal though...

... and yes you'd better summon my butt or I'll be lost for three days and we'll NEVER get this instance started

Laughter

Ok, that's awesome. If they're going to be putting me down I'm going the opposite route. Our extra spicy chili with extra sour cream and cheese, the richest cheesecake I can get my hands on, an onion and egg scramble with some chorizo...and then my corpse explodes from the gaseous buildup. I'll go out with a bang, thanks!

ROFL - okay in some ways

ROFL - okay in some ways it's the food and in some ways it's who cooked it. My mom has never made me sushi but if I need a last meal that's what I want! The only other thing I'd want is my grandma's chicken soup, and she's already dead so I'm S.O.L. there. Although my other Grammy makes the BEST roast beef and dumplings. *ponder*

hmm... Steak, baked potato,

hmm...

Steak, baked potato, broccoli if I am in a grill activity. Corn on the cob is interchangeable with broccoli.

non-seasonal - I am a sucker for a good spaghetti sauce

With Wrabbit and company and gaming - toss up between 3 probables
1. Wrabbit's ziti (good for raid torture)
2. My Pot roast when I get the gravy perfect with mashed(gaming and cooking)
3. Any holiday - Wrabbit's roast chicken and gravy and mashed.

It is hard to choose from the 3 above - they all are incredibly good and extremely effective as a group meal where people rave about it, and vent channel/in game chat torture

It is my feeling that a perfect meal:

a. Is best shared with friends
b. also tortures those online friends who are not there Twisted Evil

I am flattered that after all this time, 2 of your 3 top favorite dishes are still mine. *tackle* I imagine I'll be making those when you come visit hmm? Smiling

Well, yoru red sauce is the basis for my red sauce for both spaghetti and Ziti.

I just tend to use 1-2 cans of petite diced tomatoes more than specified to give more body to the sauce. Horamir can attest my last spaghetti effort was pretty dang good.

My perfect meal - hmmm...

My perfect meal - hmmm... and me loving food so much, I have to offer up conditions:

Cookout - The Traditional Scarabfest (TX Edition) BBQ out on the farm is damn hard to beat. If I could eat that every day and wash it down with good keg beer I'd be in heaven.

With friends and family, for those of you who know, Dominick's in Atlanta is absolutely the finest family style Italian place on the planet. A good bottle or two of a strong Chianti, thick red sauce, and good conversation followed by tiramisu and espresso.

Jacob, Tammy... when do you want to go again?

My mom's chicken and dumplings, her deviled eggs and my dad's cornbread. That and a large container of sweet tea.

Then I'm good.

hugs and hihi -

Oooo, Horamir is so right, Ted Drewes in St. Louis, best concretes around. Come to St. Louis for these as you can only find them here -- much better than Culvers and Culvers ain't bad at all.

Porterhouse steaks on the grill; potatoes wrapped in foil, butter and spices rubbed in, cooking slowly on the grill; stir fry on the grill, hmmm; agreeing with homemade corn bread too. And then Ted Drewes for dessert. Are we all dying here? Dang, I love food!

Hope all is good for all! Hope your 4th was a safe one!
hugs - Yoldie

For those of you that dont

For those of you that dont know, a "concrete" is like a blizzard, only instead of throwing in a couple oreos or some m&ms or something small, they throw in a whole piece of pie Shocked Its so thick its like concrete, hence the name. Also technically it is frozen custard, which is like super-rich ice cream.
